Authors' take on Australian stories' charm

Coast radio personality, Mary-Lou Stephens, will join authors Dale Lorna Jacobsen, Olivia Osborn and Faye Roots in Words from Down Under – a panel discussion on what makes Australian stories unique.

Noosa Library Service is offering the free event on 19 January to give literary buffs and budding writers an insight into the popular local authors’ creative processes.

“Our community is very interested in hearing author stories and the secret mechanics of creating engaging tales,” says Noosa Library Service Programs Officer Liz Bleechmore.

“We have many budding authors in our midst and this is also a fantastic networking opportunity for them, as writing can be an isolated vocation.”

It’s Noosa Library Service’s second panel discussion following the popular Writing the Truth event last August.

“Words from Down Under will give those who don’t write but love to read about Australia a behind-the-scenes look at story and scene development,” Ms Bleechmore said.

Dale Lorna Jacobsen, Faye Roots and Olivia Osborn bring rich Australian settings to their novels.

Maleny author Dale Lorna Jacobsen’s novel Yenohan’s Legacy is based in the Australian high country, while Beyond the Ashes, by Wolvi author Faye Roots, is set in Australia’s red centre and east coast. The Northern Territory is author Olivia Osborn’s setting of choice in Kututu.

Panel host, ABC Radio’s Mary-Lou Stephens, is also a celebrated author of two books – How to Stay Married and Sex, Drugs and Meditation.

Ms Bleechmore said the Library was thrilled to support local authors and celebrate Australian fiction writing.

“This event is a great opportunity to hear from authors on the creative process,” she said.

Entry is free but bookings are essential. Phone (07) 5329 6555 or visit the Noosa Library Service website to book for the event, to be held 19 January, 2016 at 10am at Cooroy Library.
