More than 20 projects funded in latest community grants round

More than 20 community projects will share in $153,000 worth of funding in the latest round of Noosa Council’s Community Grants program.

Community grants support a wide range of cultural, social, sporting and environmental projects.

This round provides funding for Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical and Historical Research Group’s new heritage centre project and Peregian Tennis Club’s retaining wall and seating replacement project.

Noosa Open Studios – a new event in which local artists open their studios to visitors – has also received funding, as has Marcus Beach Bushcare Association’s interpretive walks initiative.

Cooroy-Noosa Genealogical and Historical Research Group Secretary and Grants Coordinator Julie Kinloch said the not-for-profit organisation was delighted to receive a grant. 

“This will allow our committee to start building a new heritage centre early next year. It’s a project we’ve been tirelessly fundraising to build, for 18 years,” she said.

Noosa Mayor Noel Playford said the latest grants round had attracted significant interest.

“Council established the community grants program to help support the work of our shire’s many community groups and their enthusiastic volunteers,” he said.

“Council is pleased to be able to support a host of worthwhile initiatives from the hinterland to the coast.”

The assessment panel reviewed each application against a range of criteria including the project’s contribution to the community’s quality of life, local heritage, and sports, recreation and cultural participation.
