All on board for Saturday skate event

Noosa Council hosts the Make It Rain Skate Jam at Cooroy Skate Park this Saturday commencing at 10.30 am, offering a free skate coaching clinic for beginners and trick skating from 11.30am onwards.

“It’s a chance for skaters to learn tips and tricks from professional skaters to help them hone their kick-flips and carve it up on the half pipe,” says Noosa Council Community Development Coordinator Alison Hamblin.

“The whole day is free, but early bookings are encouraged.”

Bookings can be made online.

Noosa Council presents the Make It Rain Skate Jam in conjunction with Trinity Skateparks and Boardstore skateshop, funded through the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (Community Drought Support).

There’s a $1000 prize pool, with best trick skate jams – under-16s and open categories – and a Skate Aid barbecue from 2pm, by way of gold coin donation.

In a best trick skate jam participants take turns, over 10 to 20 minutes, performing their best trick on a particular part of the skate park. The tricks landed are awarded prizes.

On the day the coordinators will establish the turn-out and hold the best trick jams in a way that aims to fairly distribute the majority of prize money to the best performances, but also highly engaged participants performing at their personal best.

“The fun kicks off at 10.30am with the coaching clinic before the best tricks skate jams and barbecue,” says Ms Hamblin.

Cooroy Skate Park is on Mary River Road, Cooroy.
