Free family entertainment with a serious message on Get Ready Friday
Noosa Council will present 'Get Ready Fridays', a series of free outdoor family movies on the first three Fridays in December.
Visit the Cooroy Library rooftop on Friday 4 December with the family to watch ‘Home Alone’, Stan Topper Park in Pomona on Friday 11 December to laugh at ‘Elf’, or Peregian Park on Friday 18 December for another dose of ‘Home Alone’.
The ‘Get Ready Friday’ campaign is designed to promote a serious message about getting ready for storm season at the same time as providing free family entertainment in the run up to Christmas.
The Get Ready Friday campaign focuses on the key steps that families need to take to prepare themselves, their home and their pets before and during a disaster.
Martin Drydale, Noosa’s Local Disaster Coordinator, said the Get Ready Friday initiative is all about people being aware of the risks around their home and neighbourhood and developing an emergency plan.
“We all need to talk with our families and friends about what we will do in a flood or a bushfire, if mum or dad or both can’t get home for one reason or another, and how we prepare for a cyclone or a bush fire.” he said.
“The other really important thing is once you have made a plan, stick to it – last minute decisions made in haste are usually poor decisions and they can be fatal.”
As well as the movies Get Ready Friday will also feature a four-minute video about how you can get ready for the storm season. It’s been made by kids attending Noosa Flexible Learning Centre.
If you can’t make one of the movies, check out the video at www.noosa.qld.gov.au To prepare your emergency kits and plans visit www.getready.qld.gov.au for advice and resources.
During a disaster keep up-to-date by checking Noosa Council on Facebook, visiting www.bom.gov.au for weather information, and tune into local TV and radio for warnings and updates.
‘Get Ready Friday’ is brought to you by Noosa Council, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, RACQ Get Ready Queensland and Starry Nights Outdoor Movies.
