Have your say on Sunshine Coast Airport expansion plan

Back

Residents have until November 30 to view and have a say on the proposed Sunshine Coast Airport expansion plans.

The proposal includes a new 2.4km north-west/south-east runway capable of servicing aircraft such as the A330, B787 and B777.

Noosa Mayor Noel Playford said the expansion and new runway orientation would result in flight path changes.

“The State Government Coordinator-General has made information on the proposal publically available and is currently seeking community feedback,” Cr Playford said.

”There are clearly pros and cons with the proposal and on that basis Council won’t be making a submission either way, but members of the community should take the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the details, and lodge a submission if they support or oppose the proposed airport expansion.”

Cr Playford said residents must lodge their submissions by the November 30 deadline.

The environmental impact statement (EIS) was first open for comment late last year. Residents can now also comment on additional information to the EIS, developed in response to concerns raised during the 2014 community consultation period.
