Mums' ideas to shape new health and fitness program
Noosa Council has received Get Out, Get Active funding to deliver a suite of programs for new and expecting mums, to help them get active and stay active.
Council is appealing to local mums and pregnant women to put forward ideas on the sorts of activities the program should include.
Council will partner with local businesses to deliver the program, set to commence in March next year, following the $10,000 state government funding boost.
Suggestions so far include stand up paddle boarding, yoga, pilates, bike riding, post natal group fitness and aqua aerobics classes.
Mums and expectant mothers can have their say by completing the online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/activemum
“More than 700 women from the Noosa area gave birth in 2014 – so there are plenty of new mums around,” says Noosa Council Community Development Officer Amanda Tie.
“We’d like mums to fill out the survey as this will determine the program content and the finer details such as the days and times the program is run,” she said.
“Motherhood is a key life transition when women are likely to stop participating in sport. Recent and new mums at times face significant barriers to participation including cost and a lack of childcare options," Ms Tie said.
“The Active Mums program will address these barriers by providing free activities in safe suitable places with childcare and involve mums in the planning of the program content.”
The survey will be open for comment until November 23
The Queensland Government provided $10,050 to Noosa Council to deliver Active Mums Noosa to get women and girls active for life.
