Join the conversation on ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Noosa Council is calling on the community to help shape a new carbon reduction and energy efficiency plan for the shire.

The plan, says Council’s sustainability project officer Emma Menzies, aims to drive cultural change and map out ways to reduce the Shire’s greenhouse gas emissions.

“It will be a two-pronged plan that will guide Council’s efforts in reducing its own emissions over the next five years in areas such as energy, vehicles and waste management, while identifying ways the community, too, can play a role, beginning at home,” she said.

“Council can take steps to reduce the emissions its various community services and day-to-day operations produce but we can’t control community emissions. However, we can support households and businesses in reducing their emissions and this plan will look at ways we can go about it.”

Council has published a discussion paper and a series of questions online at http://yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au to encourage residents, businesses and interest groups to join the conversation.

The YourSay Noosa forum calls for suggestions on renewable energy generation and ways to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and homes, as well as feedback on whether Council and the community should set carbon emissions targets.

“The intention is to focus on the four areas where we can have the most effective and viable greenhouse gas emissions reductions,” says Ms Menzies. “These include energy efficiency in buildings and homes, renewable energy, transport and waste management.”

The forum will remain open for comment until close of business, 6 November, at http://yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au
