Tenders awarded as Council ramps up roadwork

More than $4.6 million worth of construction work on Council’s Dr Pages Road upgrade will commence in the next few weeks after Council last night awarded the tender to Shadforths Pty Ltd.

It’s one of more than 40 roadwork projects given a green light, with Council also awarding tenders for its $6.1 million shire-wide road reseal and rehabilitation program.

The Dr Pages Road upgrade will provide a missing sealed link in Noosa Shire’s hinterland road loop.

“The new design will provide a smoother drive and ensure the road is better equipped to withstand flooding,” Noosa Council Infrastructure, Planning and Design Manager Nick Wellwood said.

Council’s 2015/2016 reseal and rehabilitation program includes roads across the shire, from the hinterland areas of Kin Kin and Cooran in the north, and south to Peregian Beach.

Mr Wellwood said Council aimed to reseal almost 30 kilometres of road by March 2016.

It follows an earlier $250,000 one-off project this year to reseal sections of David Low Way.

“Roads are selected annually for reseal and rehabilitation work and the contractor will complete the job with a focus on limiting the impact on residents,” Mr Wellwood said.

“Council will be working on ensuring this work begins as soon as possible to ensure we’re well placed to complete the program around March next year, weather permitting.”

Contractors Allroad Surfaces Pty Ltd and RPQ Spray Sealing will carry out the reseal and rehabilitation program work.

The program includes pavement repairs, asphalt overlays and spray sealing.
