Pay by October 16 or face a $235 fine

Dog owners who haven’t paid their pet’s annual registration fee have until October 16 to renew it in order to avoid a $235 fine.

Council’s Acting Local Laws Manager Phil Amson says more than a quarter of the shire’s dog owners had not renewed their dog’s registration by the October 1 deadline, and Council would begin issuing fines after Friday, October 16.

"Sometimes bills can be overlooked, we appreciate that, which is why we’ve allowed a brief amnesty to October 16,” he said.

“However, we will be issuing fines to dog owners whose registration remains unpaid after that time.”

Mr Amson said dog registration helped Council reunite lost dogs with their owners and identify dogs involved in attacks, but it was also a legal requirement under state legislation.

“The fine under the Act for failing to renew registration is $235, on top of the registration fee," Mr Amson said.

“Save yourself a $235 infringement and call Council to finalise your renewal today. If your circumstances have changed or you need to update your details, please give Council a call.”

Renewals can be made at any post office, online with a credit card via Council’s website, through BPay or in person at Council’s office at 9 Pelican Street, Tewantin.

New registration payments can be made in person at Council’s customer service counter, 9 Pelican Street, Tewantin.
