Dog registration due, pay now to avoid a fine

Council is reminding owners to renew their dog’s annual registration before the 1 October deadline to avoid a fine.

Noosa Council Acting Local Laws Manager Phil Amson said registration was not only a legal requirement under state legislation, it helped Council reunite lost dogs with their owners.

“As with de-sexing, dog registration is an important part of responsible pet ownership,” Mr Amson said.

“Unfortunately we’ve seen an increase in dog attacks in recent weeks and registration is very helpful in investigating these incidents should we need to quickly track down the owner of an injured dog as a result of an attack, or identify the offending dog’s owner.”

Mr Amson said: “Council is reluctant to fine owners, but a majority are yet to renew their dog registration. Failing to do so by the deadline may result in an infringement being issued.”

“The fine under the Act for failing to renew registration is $235, on top of the registration fee," Mr Amson said.

Forms and further information on dog registration can be found on Council’s website at www.noosa.qld.gov.au/dog-registration

Renewals can be made at any post office, online with a credit card via Council’s website, through BPay or in person at Council’s office at 9 Pelican Street, Tewantin.

New registration payments can be made in person at Council’s customer service counter, 9 Pelican Street, Tewantin.
