New water playground to make a splash this summer

Tewantin’s water playground is set to make a splash in time for summer with the planned reopening just weeks away.

Project officer Adam Britton says work to upgrade the facility is well underway and Council hopes to re-open the water playground by early November.

Council closed the facility, adjacent to the boat ramp at the end of Doonella Street, earlier this year in response to safety concerns and maintenance issues.

Mr Britton said the upgrade would provide improved drainage with non-slip grates, chlorine resistant polysoft surfacing and a stainless steel double arched water spray in the centre of the park.

“Due to the complex nature of this structure, there are components that need to be fabricated and installed, so it is difficult at this early stage to determine the exact reopen date, but weather permitting we hope to finalise construction as early as October 30,” he says.

“Council appreciates residents’ patience while the park has been closed,” Mr Britton says.
