Away with weeds

Back

With warmer weather comes faster weed growth, but with a little know-how Noosa residents can help weaken weeds’ grip on the shire’s parks and gardens.

“Council and the community have done some great work to control weeds but there is always more to be done, and your own backyard is a great place to start,” says Cr Joe Jurisevic.

Council is inviting residents to check out the Bushland Care Display at Noosa Library, and to visit Council’s Parks and Natural Areas stall at the Noosa Country Show to learn more about weeds and eradication.

“Our local Bushland Care groups are making significant headway as are rural landholders in combating weeds.”

The Bushland Care display is at Noosaville Library until 13 September. It recognises the efforts of our local volunteers and promotes participation in Bushland Care activities.

Council’s Parks and Natural Areas team will be providing information and factsheets on weeds at the Noosa Country Show stall on 11 and 12 September.

Cr Jurisevic challenges you to come along and enter the Guess the Weed competition for the chance to win a worm farm.

Noosa Council recently developed a Pest Management Plan in consultation with the community and key stakeholders.

Cr Jurisevic said: “Importantly, the Plan identifies top priority pest weeds for targeted control, in both bushland reserves and on rural land”.

The Pest Management Plan can be found on Noosa Council’s website.
