Contract awarded for Munna Point Bridge repairs

Work to rehabilitate the Munna Point Bridge will begin within three months, following completion of design work, after Council on Thursday awarded the construction tender to Marine and Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd.

The $2.4 million project will address the concrete cancer, strengthen and protect the bridge, and extend its life by 50 years.

“Marine and Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd are industry leaders in the rehabilitation of concrete structures within marine environments. They’ve undertaken work on many bridge rehabilitation projects for councils and state governments, so the project is in good hands,” Planning and Infrastructure Project Manager Adam Britton said.

Mr Britton said Council will work with the contractor to reduce traffic impacts during busy holiday periods and major events such as the triathlon.

“We anticipate the work will take approximately six months to complete, following a two-month detailed design process.”

Council will also work with Maritime Safety Queensland to minimise impacts for vessels passing under the bridge while work is underway.

“We’ll be contacting nearby property owners and we’ll draw up a communications plan to keep the community up to date on traffic and other impacts.”

Marine and Civil Maintenance Pty Ltd was selected from 13 tender submissions.
