Noosa Regional Gallery to launch QAGOMA touring exhibition
Noosa Regional Gallery will launch QAGOMA’s latest regional touring exhibition, Indo Pop: Indonesian Art from APT7, on 12 June. The Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery of Modern Art provides a program of touring exhibitions and related services to regional Queensland.
It’s in the lead up to the 8th Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT8) opening at the Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) in November.
Chris Saines, Director, QAGOMA said the exhibition of nine important works would visit 12 regional venues throughout the state, beginning with Noosa Regional Gallery.
“APT7 featured the Triennial’s largest representation, to date, of artists from Indonesia. Now some of the outstanding pieces acquired for the Gallery’s contemporary Asian art collection will tour as part of our commitment to regional Queensland,” Mr Saines said.
Noosa Regional Gallery Director Nina Shadforth said she was delighted the Gallery had been chosen to launch the regional tour.
“We’re chuffed to be the first stop for the Indo Pop: Indonesian Art from APT7 tour. We have a great relationship with QAGOMA which has enabled us to bring this collection of works to Noosa,” she said.
QAGOMA Associate Curator, Asian Art, Tarun Nagesh, said the exhibition captured the vibrancy and humour of an emerging generation of contemporary Indonesian artists.
“Indo Pop: Indonesian Art from APT7 showcases a diverse group of works including the explosively coloured painting The Journey by Uji Handoko Eko Saputro (aka Hahan). These works in a variety of styles and media represent the exciting approaches that are earning these artists widespread international attention,” he said.
Indo Pop: Indonesian Art from APT7 also includes video and digital works from artist collective Tromarama, and Tintin Wulia, who now resides in Queensland. Tromarama’s stop-motion animation in Wattt?! brings lights and lamps to life in a humorous response to an unexpectedly-high electricity bill.
Noosa Regional Gallery will launch Indo Pop: Indonesian Art from APT7 on Friday, 12 June, at 6pm. It is a free event and the Friends of the Gallery will operate a cash bar. Visit the Gallery's website at www.noosaregionalgallery.com
Noosa Regional Gallery will exhibit Indo Pop: Indonesian Art from APT7 until 19 July, 2015.
