Closing date for Floating Land artists' proposals
‘Reflect and Re-imagine’ – that’s the theme for Floating Land 2015, a biennial art-in-the-environment outdoor sculpture event to be held from 27 August to 18 October.
Noosa Council has called for Expressions of Interest from local artists and artists’ groups to create new, site-specific works for the eighth iteration of the event, to be held in 2015. There will be eight new works commissioned for 2015 and the closing date for EOI proposals is 15 May.
“Floating Land 2015: Reflect & Re-imagine will provide an opportunity to pause and reconnect with the grassroots beginnings of this event, which was first held in Noosa in 2001,” says Council’s Community Services Director Alan (Fox) Rogers.
This year’s event will include a range of community activities and exhibitions over the seven week period, including:
An exhibition of temporal artworks in the environment, featuring local artists from previous Floating Land iterations and a new 2015 Floating Land artist.
A seven-week retrospective exhibition at Noosa Regional Gallery showcasing images from previous Floating Lands.
An exhibition of works created as part of the 2015 artist-in-residence program at local schools.
A community arts program at Boreen Point over the October Long Weekend.
The ‘Re-imagine’ Forum, at The J, exploring the arts in the environment and examining where to next for Floating Land.
Workshops, presentations and activities for artists and the community.
“We have many passionate artists in the Noosa region and they have indicated to us that they are keen to be involved in Floating Land and contribute to the community appreciation of our wonderful local environment,” Mr Rogers said.
“This year, the event will be focused on two key foreshores of Tewantin and Boreen Point. It will include a retrospective element, looking back and taking time to pause before looking forwards and re-imagining the future of Floating Land,” he said.
Artists who are interested in proposing a new artwork for Floating Land 2015 are invited to respond to the Expression of Interest document, available on Council’s website at www.noosa.qld.gov.au
