Calling budding young photographers!

Council is inviting budding young photographers to enter the Living Smart Landscape and Wildlife Junior Photography Competition for a chance to win $250 worth of camera gear.

The competition aims to encourage greater awareness, among under-18s, of our natural environment, its significance and beauty.

To enter, just submit a picture of:

  • Native local flora and fauna - plants, flowers, animals and birds.
  • Native local insects and spiders.
  • Natural local landscapes, including waterways.

Entries can also include pictures that show the connection between people and the natural environment.

“It could be someone swimming in a local waterway, or walking the Noosa Trail Network, for example,” says Noosa Council Sustainability Project Officer Emma Menzies.

“Young people are our future and so it’s important we encourage their appreciation for our natural environment and the importance of sustainable living,” says Ms Menzies.

“The Living Smart competition is a great way to encourage our youth to take an active interest in these areas, with the chance to win some great prizes,” she says.

There are two categories: under-12yrs and 12-17yrs old. First prize is a $250 Camera House voucher for the 12-17yrs category and a $200 voucher for the under-12s category, second prize is a 20-visit Family Swim Pass from Noosa Aquatic Centre (value $225) and third prize is a book pack and $20 Go Card voucher.

Living Smart is a partnership between Noosa Council, Sunshine Coast Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council and all pictures must have been taken within one of the three local government areas.

Go to www.livingsmartqld.com.au to enter and view the terms and conditions. Entrants must be under 18. Entries close 5pm, Sunday, 24 May. Finalists will be announced Friday, 29 May.

The top 10 entries will be exhibited at Noosa Library for two weeks from 5 June, World Environment Day.
