Put yourself in the picture for Connect to Your Creek Week

Noosa Council and Unitywater have launched the Connect to Your Creek Week photographic competition celebrating Noosa’s picturesque waterways.

Locals and visitors are invited to snap a selfie or take a photo of friends, family or workmates enjoying Noosa’s waterways, for a chance to win one of three Noosa River experiences.

“Council has partnered with Unitywater to celebrate Connect to Your Creek Week. This competition is a great way to demonstrate just how much we value our local waterways,” says Cr Tony Wellington.

Healthy Waterways' Connect to Your Creek Week (21-29 March) encourages South East Queenslanders to get active and enjoy their local waterways and aims to increase community stewardship around waterway health.

"With its freshwater creeks flowing from the hinterland, incredible lakes and many tributaries, the Noosa River is a jewel in Noosa's crown. Inevitably it plays an important role in the lives of many Noosa residents,” Cr Wellington says.

"Noosa Council recognises the significant value of our river system. This is why Council is currently involved in pilot studies that will assist our understanding of how we can improve the health of the river. We need to look after this fantastic natural asset."

Unitywater spokeswoman Kate Cash said the competition was a great way for Noosa locals to celebrate their waterways and inspire others to connect to their creeks, rivers and catchments through photography.

“As the region’s water and sewage treatment supplier, we consider waterway health in everything we do, and we are looking forward to seeing how the community portrays their interactions with the water.”

Pics should be emailed to environment@noosa.qld.gov.au marked ‘Connect to Your Creek Week comp’, and include a name and contact details.

“It could be a self-portrait taken while boating, fishing or working around the water, or with a scenic landscape featuring our waterways in the background,” Cr Wellington says.

Each day the best image will be uploaded to Noosa Council’s Facebook page for everyone to enjoy.

Three winners will be selected at random to receive an enjoyable Noosa River experience, including:

  • Half-day on a BBQ pontoon for six people
  • Oceanrider thrill ride family pass
  • Half-day self-guided kayak tour of the Noosa River Everglades.

The photos received during Connect to your Creek Week will be worked into one minute videos to be uploaded to Council’s website.

“Participants will be notified by email when their images are added to the site. The result will be a terrific celebration of our unique river and lake system," said Cr Wellington.

Entries close Sunday 29 March, 2015.
