Poets embracing the digital age
Noosa Library Service will celebrate World Poetry Day by showcasing poetry in the modern era with events at both Noosaville and Cooroy libraries this month.
Noosaville Library will host Spoken-Noosa – a two-hour event featuring guest and feature poets, and an open mic session, coordinated by local poet Hamish Danks Brown.
Hamish Danks Brown – known in poetry circles as Danksta Downunder – has developed a strong following across Australia. He has sparked the enthusiasm for others to join the Spoken-Noosa line-up, and he hopes the event will become a regular feature on the local event calendar.
The Noosa resident, who been writing since childhood, has worked in the arts and media industries in Sydney, Canberra, Wollongong and Brisbane. He has been published in journals and anthologies in Australia and overseas and he continues to perform across the country.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in poetry to connect with Noosa’s local poetry community, perform their work and hear from other local poets,” Noosa Library Service’s Liz Bleechmore says.
There will also be a two-hour workshop at Cooroy Library called Poetry in the Digital Age, demonstrating various online resources such as zines and publications, poetry groups and poets online, poetry apps and even poetry games.
“This interesting workshop will look at the online support available for the modern poet that allows them to connect digitally with the rest of the world,” Ms Bleechmore says.
Spoken-Noosa will be held on World Poetry Day, March 21, from noon to 2pm at Noosaville Library.
Cooroy Library will host Poetry in the Digital Age on Wednesday, March 25, from noon to 2pm.
