Rates 'glitch' sorted out

Noosa Council has moved quickly to correct an error in rates notices sent out to some ratepayers last week.

People living in units have been sent a larger-than-expected bill for their regular waste collection service, an increase of $27 for six-months.

Mayor Noel Playford said the increase was not in line with what the Council had announced for households, which was a rise of $9 each half-year for kerbside pick-up of waste and recycling bins.

Mr Playford said "the larger increase for units was not at the rate we announced in our budget, so the error will be rectified with a credit in the next rates bill."

The mayor said honesty and transparency are at the heart of how Noosa Council operates.  "In this case"- he said - "we've billed people living in units more than we should have, so we'll sort this out quickly with a credit."

Mr Playford said he apologised to ratepayers for the error.

"I hope people will see this for what it is" the mayor said "an inadvertent error that we've fixed quickly.  We are determined to deliver exactly what we promise to ratepayers."
