Increasing incidents of dogs off leash

Noosa Council is calling on pet owners to rein in their dogs after an increase in dogs running out of control in public areas.

Council's Regulatory Services Team Leader Phil Amson said that in the past fortnight twelve dog owners have been issued with on the spot fines of $220 each for allowing their dogs to run out of control on beaches and parks, and a further 20 cautions issued.

"Gympie Terrace, Peregian Beach and Noosa Main Beach are particular problem areas" Mr Amson said.

"We are reminding people that no dogs are allowed at all on Noosa Main Beach from the river mouth to First Point – even if they are on a lead".

"There's a beautiful dog off-leash beach just around the corner at the Spit, and off-leash areas at Peregian and Sunshine beaches".

"Council's sporting fields are also off-limits to all dogs".

Council is reminding dog owners to:

  • Walk your dog on a leash in public areas at all times - unless in a leash free area
  • Ensure your dog is always under effective control, even in leash free area
  • Don't let your dog run away so he cannot hear and see you
  • Make sure your dog does not approach and annoy other people or dogs.
