Reduce landfill by recycling your garden waste and Win a Prize

Back

During March, every property owner that signs up for a garden waste bin will go in a draw to win one of five restaurant vouchers worth $100 each.

Noosa Council is encouraging residents to recycle their garden waste by signing up for a garden waste collection service.

Noosa Council's Coordinator of Waste Management Wayne Schafer said that general waste bins across Noosa contain on average about 22% garden waste.

"This waste heads straight to the landfill, where it creates methane - a greenhouse gas – which impacts on the ozone layer, contributing to global warming," Mr Schafer said.

"Garden waste in garden waste bins is recycled and reused, meaning there is no impact on the landfill. Signing up for the green waste service is an easy and affordable way you can save your green waste from ending up in landfill. It will save on trips to the tip, tip fees and the running costs of a trailer/ute."

For a small annual fee of $75, paid with your rates, council will provide a lime green lidded bin, which will be collected fortnightly from your kerbside.

Almost 3,000 households are already using this service.

The service is available in most urban areas in Noosa. In July, council will be looking to expand the service to more areas.

The prizes will be drawn in early April and winners will be contacted by telephone.
