Reeds Talking, Mountains Walking

Back

Artist Lin Martin captures the wild beauty of her natural surrounds on the Sunshine Coast, presenting her ‘aesthetic' in both photographic works and considered text.

Martin's exhibition, Reeds Talking, Mountains Walking will be shown at the Butter Factory Arts Centre from Thursday 27 February 2014 to Saturday 5 April 2014. Director of the Exhibition Touring Program Lisa Beilby says, "Lin Martin offers us an intimate look at the natural world through stunning photography and thought-provoking text. This exhibition is lush and spiritual. A feast of tiny detail and colourful texture. Wonderful."

Martin seeks to inspire others to undertake their own journeys of discovery and connection. She loves spending her time "poking around" and studying the wild places, and records the "…fleeting, ephemeral moments of change in the natural world". The resultant photographic essays are elegant meditations on the intricacy-beyond-imagining that is life.

The images in Reeds Talking, Mountains Walking emerge for our viewing pleasure from the artist's book that accompanies the exhibition. Each chapter articulates a different habitat - Beach, Dunes, Headlands, Heaths, Mangroves, Mountaintops, Waterways and Woodlands. The works are imbued with a measure of time, patience, stillness and contemplation; a set of luminous spaces that invite the viewer to consider their own connection with place and nature. Martin, a scientist and lecturer as well as image-maker, has also developed a series of artist talks and workshops to accompany the tour for this exhibition.

Reeds Talking, Mountains Walking is touring by Artslink QLD which is supported by The Tim Fairfax Family Foundation. Artslink Queensland is dedicated to bringing quality visual arts into regional and remote areas, supporting Queensland artists and communities in celebrating their creativity and diversity.
