Sea change at the Butter Factory Arts Centre
Vie de Pacifique/Pacific Life is an exciting international print exchange of original contemporary prints opening at the Butter Factory Arts Centre at 10am on Thursday 6 March. The print exchange was coordinated by Impress Printmakers president Dr Jenny Sanzaro-Nishimura, who collaborated with seven print studios around the Pacific Ocean. A total of fifty-one artists from seven countries around the Pacific have participated, each contributing 14 prints. As part of the print exchange each participating country received a complete collection to exhibit. The very first exhibition of Vie de Pacifique/Pacific Life opened in at Green Lane Studios Auckland New Zealand and it has since shown at Joshibi University of Art and Design in Japan, and Taller 99 studios in Chile. The other countries involved are Australia, Hawaii, the Philippines and Vanuatu.
The theme Vie de Pacifique/Pacific Life enabled artists to express their cultural identity and explore their relationship with the Pacific Ocean; culturally, as a source of life and beauty, a source of food, an element of nature and as a place of travel and recreation. Artists have also taken into consideration the dumping ground for human and industrial discardments and other environmental or political concerns that affects these waters.
