The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, its mascot Blazer the Koala, and the Cooroy SES truck will be visiting Cooroy Library to stage a mock-up accident rescue scene for Grade One children. The visit is part of the ‘Bringing Boys Back to Books' initiative that aims to use the exciting world of emergency services and safety to teach students from Cooroy State School about books and the power of literacy.

Local author Greg Wilschefski will read his book, Brave Dave the Platypus, which tells the story of a hero platypus and his friends that save a water rat from drowning. The Queensland Fire and Rescue and SES will also be reading books that showcase ‘accident scenarios', safety and mateship.

This great day also encourages local fathers to attend and read to the children as part of the program, as it highlights the importance of male role models and books. After the excitement of the rescue, the children will break off into groups to go cartooning with ‘Cartoon Dave' and Claymation workshops.

The Friends of Mill Place received grant funding for the event and have partnered with the Noosa Library Service to run this much anticipated event at Cooroy Library.
