Noosa Council takes a firm line on Peregian Beach shopping centre plan
Noosa Council has continued its strong stand against plans for a second Peregian Beach shopping centre on community land at the site of the old bowls club.
The council has already decided to oppose plans for the shopping centre because they clearly conflict with the Noosa Plan, and would remove much-needed community recreation land in the town while creating a second shopping precinct that damages businesses in the village square.
At last night's meeting the council took matters a step further, advising the applicant that it would not be allowed access through the council-owned car park on David Low Way.
If necessary, council says it "will erect a substantial fence on the boundary of the land and prevent such access."
Late last year the Sunshine Coast Council gave the applicant a similar message, refusing to give away the car park next to the Peregian Beach Community Centre, even though it forms an important part of the application.
