'Noosa on Weyba' development now in Noosa hands

Noosa Council is today firmly in the driver's seat over the assessment of the $500 million Noosa on Weyba development application.

The Sunshine Coast Council has decided that Noosa Council will act as ‘Assessment Manager' for the application.

Sunshine Coast Council will retain a concurrence role, but only for that part of the proposed development that lies within its shire boundaries.

Mayor Noel Playford applauded the decision of the Sunshine Coast Council. He said "it's the right decision because most of the impact of this development application is well and truly inside the Noosa Shire".

Noosa Council's legal jurisdiction will now cover the entire development application.

The Sunshine Coast Council will have until 14 February to make its determination on the part of the project that lies within its boundaries, and it will advise Noosa Council of its support or opposition.

It will then be up to Noosa Council to make a final decision on the application.

Mayor Playford has said that the Noosa on Weyba application is one of several major planning issues in front of the new Noosa Council that held its historic first meeting at the Tewantin chambers today.
