Rock 'n' roll icon Tex Perkins in conversation at The J

Noosa Library Service presents rock ‘n’ roll legend Tex Perkins in conversation with ABC Radio’s Jon Coghill next month.

Promoting his self-titled memoir, TEX, Perkins promises raucous anecdotes from decades fronting some of Australia’s most spirited rock ‘n’ roll bands, including The Cruel Sea and The Beasts Of Bourbon.

“It is not often that we get a chance to hear someone as extraordinary as Tex Perkins share his stories with us,” says Noosa Library Service Programs Officer, Liz Bleechmore.

“We are so excited about this event. It will be a great insight into the life and times of an Australian rock ‘n’ roll icon. Add Jon Coghill, previously from Powderfinger, to the mix and it is sure to be a lively and fascinating conversation.”

Full of punk energy, Perkins’s no-holds-barred, laugh-out-loud memoir is written with brutal truth, raw power and feral humour, and lays bare an extraordinary life played out on the road, on the stage, and on the edge.

It tells the story of how Gregory Perkins fled Brisbane for Sydney’s music scene, so beginning his rise to success, celebrity and ultimately icon status as Tex Perkins.

“Tex Perkins is an embodiment of rock ‘n’ roll. His take-no-prisoners approach to performance comes with the sensibility of an artist committed to the subtle and often unsubtle nuances of his craft,” says Ms Bleechmore.

“Throw in an astonishing voice full of power and depth, mix it with a dry and sardonic sense of humour and what emerges is the reason there is only one Tex Perkins.”
