Stencil art exhibition opens March 24 at Noosa Regional Gallery
Street art comes to Noosa Regional Gallery this month with the 2017 Stencil Art Prize Exhibition.
The touring exhibition features work by 67 stencil artists from 25 countries.
Jacinta Fintan, Founder and Director of the Stencil Art Prize, says it’s the world’s largest stencil event.
“Influenced by the fleeting nature of street art, these stencil-based works blend pop-culture imagery and global politics to highlight the growing concerns of a socially engaged generation of artists,” Ms Fintan says.
Featured artists work across a range of stencil making methods.
These include hand drawn and hand cut stencils, computer-generated stencil layers, silk screen stencils and screen printing processes.
“The exhibition also features collage and mixed media stencils, spray paint techniques, water colour, ink and more,” says Noosa Regional Gallery Director Michael Brennan.
“For Noosa Regional Gallery to be able to host an exhibition like this – featuring street art from around the world – speaks to both the global significance of stencil art and the growing recognition that Noosa Regional Gallery is a space where audiences have access to both local practices and those working on the world stage,” Mr Brennan says.
The 2017 Stencil Art Prize Exhibition opens at 2pm, Saturday March 24.
“The event might be more akin to a street party than a typical exhibition opening,” Mr Brennan says.
“Spilling out of the Gallery doors, there will be a Stencil Workshop with artist David Houghton from 12pm, plus the opportunity to try out some Virtual Reality Street Art with Kingspray Graffiti. Plus we’ll have tunes by DJ Antix.”
The exhibition runs until May 6, 2018.
Entry to the Gallery is free.
