More water bottle stations in the pipeline
Noosa’s new filtered water bottle filling stations have proven so popular Council has rolled out more... and there are still more to come.
The push-button stations, which support Council’s Towards Zero Waste initiative and the community’s Plastic Free Noosa campaign, are now in four locations.
There are two at Noosa Heads – one at First Point and at the Hastings Street end of Park Road – plus two along Gympie Terrace at Noosaville.
Council’s Building and Plumbing Manager Allan Hazell said Council was looking to provide eight more in a partnership with Unitywater.
“Locations we have earmarked for the filtered water stations are Tewantin, Cooroy, Peregian Beach, Pomona and Cooran,” he said.
“The stations dispense 600ml of water – enough to fill a typical drink bottle – with each quick press of the button,” Mr Hazell said.
“Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we are pleased to provide more of these stations to meet the demand.”
Unitywater Executive Manager Customer and Community Judy Bailey said the filling stations were a great initiative for the local community and visitors to Noosa.
“Through our Back to Tap program we are passionate about reducing single use plastics and encourage everyone to get back to drinking tap water. These filling stations are a free alternative to buying plastic bottled water and we are thrilled to partner with Council to roll out more of them.”
Mr Hazell said Council would install signs on each station to remind those filling up their water bottles that each press of the button releases 600ml of water.
“There is no need to press and hold the button while filling a bottle. To avoid wasting water, just press it once and quickly release it to dispense a full 600ml.
“By encouraging the use of reusable drink bottles, the bottle filling stations support Council’s Towards Zero Waste initiative and add to Council’s commitment with Boomerang Alliance to see Noosa become plastic-free,” Mr Hazell said.
