Gallery up late for Midnight Oil program

Noosa Regional Gallery launches its new monthly music industry nights this Friday from 5pm.

Inspired by the Gallery’s current Midnight Oil exhibition, the nrgNITES, (pronounced ‘energy nights’), industry series kicks off with former nationally-touring musician, Justin Sykes as guest speaker.

The Gallery invites musicians, writers, promoters and anyone interested in furthering their creative practice to attend the two-hour session, with cash bar available and casual atmosphere.

Sykes built a name for himself as the bass player for Palladium – a Brisbane band of the late 1990s to early 2000s that toured with Midnight Oil during their peak. Sykes will discuss his experience of life in the music business and in the band on tour with Midnight Oil.

Noosa Regional Gallery Director, Nina Shadforth, said nrgNITES was an exciting initiative that offered creatives in the Noosa region, and those interested in a music career, an opportunity to gain some industry insights.

“I am pleased that we can offer our audiences more options to engage in the stories associated with The Making of Midnight Oil exhibition with our new nrgNites series,” Ms Shadforth said. 

nrgNITES is a four-part series, hosting various special guests who are professionals in their chosen creative field. Topics to come over the coming two months include ‘Street Press’, ‘Activism’ and ‘Rock Video’. 

nrgNITES: ‘Behind the Scenes’ begins 5pm this Friday, September 16 at Noosa Regional Gallery. Entry is $10 per person and includes an entry into the draw for a signed, Midnight Oil prize pack comprising the likes of a drum, books and shirts. Pop-up bar and snacks available until 7pm. For those in the mood for live music, Hostile Entertainment and Noosa Regional Gallery present The Backsliders on 7 October, featuring Oils drummer Rob Hirst, performing with Dom Turner and Joe Glover.

“Tickets, on sale for $25 plus booking fee through Moshtix or $30 at the door, will sell fast so get in quick to make sure you don’t miss out on what will be a fantastic and memorable night of great music,” Ms Shadforth said.

Hirst will join side-project collaborator, Sean Sennett, for a conversation about song-writing on Saturday, October 8 at the Gallery.
