Bright new exhibitions on show at Regional Gallery
They may open on Friday the 13th, but there’s nothing gloomy about three bright new exhibitions showing at Noosa Regional Gallery.
Friends of Noosa Regional Gallery’s A Taste of Art 2015: Reflections showcases a rich array of local artists’ diverse creations and talent.
“Each year that we have hosted the Friends of the Gallery’s Taste of Art exhibition, the bar is raised and the standard of work gets higher,” says Noosa Regional Gallery Director Nina Shadforth.
In Dried, Fractured and Parched – also opening on February 13 – emerging local ceramicist Lisa Brummel explores how naturally occurring events impact the Australian landscape and its people.
“Local artist Lisa Brummel is one exciting ceramicist and we are proud to be the first regional gallery to exhibit a solo exhibition of hers.
“Having won the Highly Commended award in the Sunshine Coast Art Prize in 2013, it will be a real treat to see what she has been up to.”
Through her exhibition, In Depth, Joanna Bone explores her love of pattern and repetition to deliver seashore-inspired works, including seagrasses, sand dollars and other marine creatures.
“The colours of my work in England were dull and neutral, but if you compare them to my work now you’ll see there’s an explosion of colour,” says British ex-pat and glass artist Joanna Bone who notes a fascination with the colours of Brisbane’s natural environment.
“The Gallery’s Category A status enables us to host national touring exhibitions and bring to the region high-end contemporary art, and I am excited that we can present to the community an exquisite exhibition of contemporary glass art by artist Joanna Bone,” Ms Shadforth says.
Artist and 2014 Archibald finalist Jandamarra Cadd is guest speaker for the official launch.
The official opening is 6pm, 13 February, 2015. RSVP to gallery@noosa.qld.gov.au
Upcoming public programs include talks by artists Joanna Bone and Lisa Brummel, workshops with Taste of Art artists Beatrice Prost, Sharon Jack and Ellen Appleby as well as a Teens Art Workshop with Penny McIntyre.
