Cabling work to cause possible traffic delays

Motorists may experience brief delays around the Hastings Street precinct on Wednesday and Thursday this week due to partial carpark and road closures.

Noosa Council Technical Officer, Martin Sergas, said telecommunications contractors would install a fibre optic link that required the partial closure of the ’maze’ carpark near the Police Beat.

“Traffic leaving Hastings Street will also be reduced to one lane approaching the roundabout at the intersection of Noosa Drive and Noosa Parade to allow for pedestrian access around the work site on February 4th and 5th,” he said.

“The temporary lane closure is required to achieve safe 24hr access at this site adjacent to this roundabout and it may cause some delays for traffic exiting the Hastings Street precinct.”

Mr Sergas said the work was expected to be completed by the end of the week, with traffic control personnel on site Wednesday and Thursday to manage traffic flow.

“Pedestrians may also notice some work occurring along Hastings Street at existing cabling pits,” he said.

The contractors have advised local businesses of possible disruptions.

Council conditioned the telecommunications company to undertake the works after the busy school holiday period ended, and prior to upcoming Hastings Street events scheduled for March.

“Council is mindful that this precinct is popular with locals and visitors and we’ve taken steps to ensure minimal impact for traders, residents and visitors,” Mr Sergas said.
