Peregian Beach bowls club demolition work begins
Local contractor R & L Jones will begin demolition work on the old Peregian Beach Bowls Club site from today.
Noosa Council Community Services Director Alan 'Fox' Rogers said Council aimed to complete the work as soon as possible, with the contractor following strict safety guidelines to clear the site.
Mr Rogers said the contractor would liaise with residents near the Rufous Street site, which will be closed off to the public by way of 1.8m high security fencing.
“We'll be making sure the surrounding environment is safe for the public and contractors with safety barriers, signage and inductions for anyone who enters the site,” he said.
“Once work is complete Council will receive certification to confirm the site has been cleared of all asbestos.
Council purchased the vacant 6500sqm bowls club property from Pine Rivers Memorial Bowls Club Inc late last year.
“Once the demolition work is complete Council can continue working with the Peregian Beach community to determine the best use for the site,” Mr Rogers said.
