Clearer direction for road with two names

Noosa Council is considering renaming a section of David Low Way in an effort to clear up confusion.

David Low Way between the intersections of Noosa Drive, Noosa Heads, and Edwards Street, Sunshine Beach, is commonly known as Sunshine Beach Road.

The road officially appears as David Low Way in Council's records. However Australia Post, emergency services and most maps and mapping systems recognise the stretch as Sunshine Beach Road.

The name of Sunshine Beach Road has been unofficially used by locals since at least the 1960s.

Noosa Council Asset Planning Coordinator, Bryan O'Connor, said that while the road is officially named as David Low Way, there were many businesses in Noosa Junction and signs referring to that section of road as Sunshine Beach Road.

"To end any confusion over the name of this section of road, Council is considering officially changing the name from David Low Way to Sunshine Beach Road," he said.

Mr O'Connor said Council had written to affected property owners and businesses, who had been invited to lodge objections by 31 October 2014.

The section of David Low Way from the Hill Street Roundabout, Sunshine Beach to Peregian Beach will not change.
