Help Save the Glossy Black Cockatoo

Would you like to be part of the Glossy Black Cockatoo Birding Day on Sunday 19 October 2014?

One day per year, from the hinterland to the coast, volunteers identify and survey local Glossy Black Cockatoos, a species that is listed as "vulnerable". Keeping accurate records of the Glossies helps our understanding of how these birds live and move around the Noosa area.

The Glossies, the smaller of the Black Cockatoos, are magnificent birds, with large powerful beaks, and red tail feathers. Glossies have a distinctive cockatoo call and can be seen flying in two's or three's or feeding on the seeds of ‘she-oak' trees.

A training session on identification and survey techniques in preparation for the Birding Day event will be conducted on Friday 10th of October from 1-2pm at the Noosa Council Chambers.

If you would like to be part of the Glossy Black Cockatoo Birding Day and attend the training session beforehand, please contact Peter Milne 53296328 or Email peter.milne@noosa.qld.gov.au
