Noosa Regional Gallery celebrates the influence of China in two new exhibitions
The influence of Chinese culture and motifs shine through two new stunning exhibitions at Noosa Regional Gallery from 9 October through to 23 November, 2014.
Traces of China, by Yeats and Rick Gruin is a rich and engaging joint exhibition of unique, masterful ceramics by Chinese-Australian artist, Yeats Gruin alongside large expressionist paintings by artist and partner Rick Gruin.
Inspiration from an Artist Residency in Shenzen, China in 2013, triggered further investigation by the two artists that have been influenced by the life and human experience, old and new, encountered in China, to work in bold and expressive new ways.
Opening at the same time is an exhibition of traditional Indonesian batik: Thousand Rolls of Batik, a sample display of the influence of Chinese decorative and symbolic motifs in the batik designs. Local batik artist, Heda Bailey, presents this small exhibition as a taste for a continuing larger body of work celebrating Indonesian batik's recognition by UNESCO in October 2009, as an item of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
