Project Eliza creative response workshops at the Butter Factory Arts Centre
Express your creativity through written responses to the Beauty and Tragedy on Fraser Shores; the Eliza Fraser saga exhibition currently on display at Noosa Council's Butter Factory Arts Centre, Cooroy.
Project Eliza consists of two immersive creative writing response workshops and a rehearsed presentation facilitated by Dr Sue Davis, senior lecturer at CQUniversity, Noosa. Having published and presented her work about drama and new media at state, national and international levels, Dr Davis has been devising and writing scripts for more than 20 years, many in her prior professional life as a drama educator and Performing Arts Head of Department and more recently as facilitator and director for various regional performance projects.
"The Eliza Fraser story is a fascinating one and along with Judith Laws paintings, we have a wonderful rich bank of material that just begs a creative response! I've worked with the material myself and was inspired to create a dramatic one-person show, so I will be drawing on these experiences as well as years of teaching and scriptwriting to lead others through a creative writing process."
"While individuals will each have their own personal response through these workshops, I am excited about the ways we can share and be inspired by others as well" says Dr Davis.
As facilitator, Dr Davis will lead participants to respond to Judith Law's paintings in the Beauty and Tragedy on Fraser Shores exhibition, to create their own creative writing pieces. Working in the genre of creative non-fiction, they will combine personal responses and factually based information into work that may be shared dramatically. They will be guided through a process of responding, creating and sharing.
Participants are invited to bring along good old fashioned pen and paper and can also bring their smart phone or tablet to publish directly to a PlaceStories web-based project.
The Project Eliza workshops will held at the Butter Factory Arts Centre from 10am to 2pm, on Saturday September 6 and on Saturday September 20.
